Wallilabou Anchorage was the principle Caribbean location for Disneys 2003 hit movie 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. This world premiere movie is inspired by, and takes its theme from, the popular Walt Disney theme park ride of the same name.
The plot: Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) brave the Caribbean Sea to stop a ship of pirates led by Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), who intend to break an ancient curse... with the blood of the lovely Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley). Also starring Jonathon Pryce and Jack Davenport.
The set was built around our hotel and restaurant and the hotel rooms were used as 'Green Rooms" for the actors. Our hotel, restaurant, shops and customs office were the made into the village of Port Royal, which was the famous pirate town in Jamaica.
The whole bay was bustling with hundreds of cast and crew for the duration of the filming and pirate ships ruled the sea. It all happened again when Disney also filmed Pirates of the Caribbean 2 "Dead Mans Chest" & 3 "At Lands End", back to back.
Come and visit the place where Pirates of the Caribbean movies began filming and be a part of it by trying on our real set costumes and pirate costumes to take your own pictures in and around the set buildings. It is really worth a visit. Check out Captain Jack Sparrow's boat mast, the original one from the movie, which stands majestically in the restaurant.
The set is fragile so we are trying to preserve it and are constantly in the process of restoration. We have a museum and are at present creating a movie building from one of the set buildings. We have an autograph board with lots of signatures of stars and crew including Johnny Depp, and many interesting photos.
